The Chinese zodiac is best known as a cycle of birth-year animals, but the same twelve Earthly Branches can also label days. There is no responsible reason to hide this setting when a birth occurs near it.
Consider a fictional record at 11:30 p.m. A civil-midnight calculator keeps the date's existing stem-branch pair for another thirty minutes. The difference demonstrates a boundary rule; it does not make the person a blend of two animals.

Time zones can change the date before any zodiac rule is applied
